Are You Eligible? The following conditions must be met!
1. You must have participated in Jr Comet Sports as a youth?
2. You must be graduating the year you apply.
3a. Your residence address must be within the boundaries of School District 6.
OR
3b. You must be graduating from Crater High School.
An important distinction to note, is that "Jr Comet Wrestling" is not part of Jr Comet Sports.
A child that ONLY participated in that program is not eligible for our scholarship.
The following list are some of the key aspects that were felt to be of utmost importance in selecting recipients:
1. Applicants "must" have participated in Junior Comet Sports.
2. Applicants should be role models for and of Citizenship.
3. Did applicants continue to be involved in athletics in high school?
4. Did applicants exhibit voluntary involvement in extracurricular community activities?
5. Were the applicants parents or relatives involved in helping a Junior Comet Sports team or program?

How and When to Apply:
After Christmas vacation of every year there are Announcements and/or notices that go out through the Crater High Schools information systems, via the Crater Foundation. This is when seniors need to respond and get in touch with either the foundations Executive Director - Jill Layton (OR) Teacher - Sean Warner, to receive the scholarship application. If you haven’t heard or received any of the announcements mentioned above, make sure you check with Jill Layton or Sean Warner in February or early March of your graduating year. There is a deadline for submitting your application. Don’t miss that deadline as beyond that date applications are not accepted! Applications are typically distributed during the months of March and early April each year at Crater

History and General Information!
Jr Comet Sports began awarding graduating senior scholarships in 1991. This was the first year that 6th graders who participated in 1984-85 (Jr Comet Sports first season) became seniors. The Jr Comet constitution requires an award
of (at least) two $500 scholarships each year to graduating students who participated in one of our programs as a youth
(one each to a male and female student).
From 1991 through 2024 our totals are: 301 Scholarships awarded for a combined sum of $296,900. The averages since
1991 have been 8.1 scholarships per year at $1,000 +/- per scholarship. Over the last few years our scholarships have
averaged close to $1,500 each.
